Kids ages 10-14 will enjoy this fast-paced, fun class with Olympic Development runner John Byrne
And collegiate track athlete Carrie Tarrant. John and Carrie will cover basic running technique and work with the kids to improve speed and Stamina — but we also throw in a lot of fun running games to improve skills.  

This is a great class for overall fitness and for soccer, lacrosse,
And field hockey players where running is a large component of their sport.

Mondays 4-5pm, Loughlin Park, Cos Cob, beginning 11/3, $25 per class.

More than a dozen Fairfield County and Westchester County restaurants are offering some of their finest French culinary selections at a Gala benefit evening with the theme “A Night in Paris / Une Nuit à Paris” on Friday, November 7, 2008, to support the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT. The fundraising event, held at 7 p.m. in the Museum galleries, melds exquisite French cuisine, extraordinary art, and generous community support from these superb area eating establishments as well as several local merchants who are supplying goods and services for the night to ensure a successful Museum fundraising event. The benefit, which also celebrates the Bruce’s major exhibition Paris Portraits: Artists, Friends, and Lovers, is being organized under the expert care Chef Jean-Louis Gerin and chaired by Nat Day, Jean Doyen de Montaillou, Leah Rukeyser, and Michel Witmer.

The evening features culinary tastings prepared by notable French restaurants such as La Bretagne, La Cremaillere, La Panetiere, Bistro 22, Figaro Bistro, Meli-Melo, Morello Restaurant, Rebeccas, Restaurant Jean-Louis, Chocopologie, St. Moritz Pastry Shop, the Kneaded Bread, and L'Escale, paired with fabulous French wines generously donated by Horseneck Wines and Liquors. Additional support comes from local merchants Thomas Henkelmann, Colony Florist, F.Schumacher & Co., j papers greenwich, ct, Smith Party Rentals, and Pierre Deux.

Joined by representatives from exhibition underwriters Betteridge Jewelers, Van Cleef & Arpels, and First Republic Bank, guests of A Night in Paris / Une Nuit à Paris can enjoy savory French delicacies and experience a fascinating glimpse at early 20th-century celebrities depicted in paintings, sculpture, and works on paper by renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Constantin Brancusi, Amedeo Modigliani, Marcel Duchamp, and Max Ernst.

Ticket prices for A Night in Paris / Une Nuit à Paris are $300, $500, $1,000 and $2,500. Those who purchase tickets at the two higher levels will have an opportunity to win a stunning piece of Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry. All proceeds will benefit the Bruce Museum.

With their own A, B, C’s, they deliver an entertaining formula for achieving success at any stage and at any age.  The Dream Team covers all the bases—life coach, attorney, financial planner, freelance columnist, motivational speaker, actor, writer and producer. Amongst them they have authored three books on women’s personal and professional development with more on the way, produced an internationally received one-woman show, appeared on television, radio and other media, presented at women’s events and programs nationwide and created/founded numerous organizations and conferences.


YWCA calls for nominations for Racial Justice Scholarships for two high school seniors

The YWCA of Greenwich is pleased to announce the call for candidates for its sixth annual Racial Justice Scholarship.  Candidates may be nominated by a member of the faculty of any Greenwich high school or by the general public.  A $500 scholarship will be given to each of two high school seniors who live in and attend a Greenwich school, and who have demonstrated special effort to encourage people to respect differences, to promote equality and to eliminate all forms of bigotry, bias and racism in their school or our community.

Nominations are due by December 15, 2008.  The award will be presented at the YWCA on Thursday, January 15 at 6 p.m.  Winners must be in present on at the YWCA event on January 15 to receive the scholarship.

This award has been created to recognize and encourage youth to take action, whether it is to bring awareness to themselves or others, to have an impact on their communities, or to promote progress in creating an environment where all differences among individuals are respected and celebrated.  Diversity is an integral part of a rich and strong community that enhances the quality of life for all. Eliminating racism is one of the primary missions of the YWCA.
